Origin and development of Koyippally

The Initial Era

I am born and bought up at Alleppey, in Kerala, The God's Own Country which is the paradise of India, where my love of nature, study, and computer knowledge as well as my public life was developed. I travelled through different countries and enjoying a good family life in UK at the moment after ten long years of terrible discriminative atmosphere in Saudi Arabia .

Bit more about Me and Koyippally Family:

At the end of the 15th century, Suryanaraya Namboothiri, a tall yong man from an ancient Hindu Brahmin family at Vaikom in south Kerala decided to embrace christanity and become a Christian. During baptism, he adopted the name 'Mathan' (Mathew) and his slim tall figure soon earned him the nickname Vaarikkolan Mathan (Lanky Mathew). His orthodox hindu family, being embarrassed by his bold revelutionary and adventurous act, decided to kill him. But, Mathan escaped from them and crossed the Vembanad Lake to Alleppey, and settled there, purchasing a piece of land (parampu) from a vanyan (washerman=doby). Gradually, Varikkolan Mathan became Mathan Vanyanparampil. l. Mathan and his family pursued business at Alappuzha, a harbour town on the western coast of Kerala. Alappuzha was already a major market for coconut and spices and well known as the "Venice of the East". Gradually the Koyippallys operated from their family office in the market (chungam). Mathai, one of his Mathan's great grandsons, settled himself at Koyippally at Thathampally in Alleppey. Present Koyippally family originates from Mathai's grandson, Koyippally Ulahannan Mappilai, an active businessman and local leader. His son from his first marriage settled at 'Kuracheril' and the second and third sons continued to live at Koyippally. The eldest of the two, Outhachan (Koyippally Lonan Joseph) did coconut business at Alappuzha chungam and excelled in his pepper export business to Europe from his firm, Scaria Brothers, Kochi, as the harbour at Kochi became more prominent. His firm was named after his eldest son, Scaria (Kariyachan). His other sons were John (Lonachan), Joseph (Kunjachan) and Michael (Appachan). Outhachan was known as L.
